From the beginning the color of the coat of arms was red and in 1933 it became black. In the period in which Rolls-Royce Ltd was under the control of the British Government, in 1973 to avoid bankruptcy, the Government decided to separate the thriving automotive activities from the aeronautical ones in severe financial crisis and thus Rolls-Royce Motors was founded for the automotive business, while, Rolls-Royce Ltd. continued with the aeronautical business.
