The Fiat Dino, produced from 1966 to 1972, was born from the collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari, based on a Ferrari project, the "Dino" project so called because the project was started by Alfredo Ferrari known as Dino, the prematurely deceased son of Enzo Ferrari. Ferrari with the 1956 Dino project created a new V6 engine that it would use to race the "Formula 2 Championship", after having obtained the relative racing license. A license that Ferrari would have obtained with the construction of a number of engines. Considering the limited number of cars produced by the house of Maranello, Fiat and Pininfarina, they took to the field to "help" Ferrari, and, thus, in 1966 they created the first Fiat Dino equipped with the V6 Ferrari engine and which stylistically was based on some models designed by Pininfarina and subjected to Ferrari, a stylist choice also wanted to underline the link between the Fiat Dino and the Dino Ferrar project, a project which, however, sees the two cars united by the engine alone. The first model of Fiat Dino was a Spider to which a Coupé designed by Bertone was added in 1967, while the engine, originally 2 liters and 160hp, had several updates and improvements and came to develop about ca 180cv with 2.4 liters of displacement.
