The historic Rally raid "Paris-Dakar" was conceived by Thierry Sabine when, during a stage of the Rally Abidjan-Nice he got lost in the African desert, he had the idea of giving life to a race starting in France and arriving in Africa. In 1979, with a simple practical organization, the "Oasis" rally raid was run, Oasis was the main sponsor, which from the following year became "Paris-Dakar". The history of the Rolls-Royce car manufacturer, on the other hand, has always been linked to the world of sports competitions, a participation that took place for the first time in 1906 with Charles Rolls, while the only appearance of a Rolls-Royce car at the Paris-Dakar it dates back to 1981 when Thierry de Montcorgé decided to take a specially modified Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow to the starting line. The car that took part in the race and finished 40th out of 170 is known as "Jules Rolls", Jules was in fact the new perfume by Christian Dior who acted as main sponsor.
