Bentley Motor Ltd., founded in 1919 by Walter Owen Bentley WO simply, has always been a company that produced luxury cars with the sporty soul and bitter rival of Rolls-Royce Ltd. which, in November 1931, acquired it after submitting a secret offer to save the Cricklewood company from bankruptcy, which was put into liquidation by the "British Central Equitable Trust". The liquidation of the company founded by WO followed the economic difficulties faced by the company, difficulties which appeared for the first time as early as 1925 and which forced its founder to sell his "creature". After the acquisition by Rolls-Royce, Bentley was relegated to the role of "sub-brand" of the Manchester company until, in 1998, it was entirely taken over by the Volkswagen group to return to being independent and with its own identity.
