Mazda Motor Corporation is a Japanese car manufacturer founded in 1920 in Hiroshima by Jujiro Matsuda as Toyo Cork Kogyo Co., Ltd and originally produced tools; the name Mazda, on the other hand, derives from the similarity between the surname of the founder Matsuda and the name of the divinity Mazda, creator of Mazdaism. The main feature of the Japanese automaker is the use of rotary engines, and more generally Mazda is characterized by an unconventional style regarding the use of some technical solutions in the automotive field. Vehicle production started in 1931 with the three-wheeler Mazdago and until 1936 Mazda products were sold by the Mitsubishi Corporation on which it put its own brand. Mazda's first vehicle with Wankel-type rotary engine is the Cosmo Sports 110S and later revived for the Mazda RX-7.
