Abarth was founded in 1949 in Bologna by the engineer and ex-driver Carlo Abarth and the racing driver Guido Scagliarini, when the engineer Abarth decided to take over Cisitalia, a Turin-based automotive company in economic difficulties, originally born as a sports team specializing in the creation of small-engine sports cars built on the basis of existing cars.
