Mercedes-Benz screen printed metal sign dimensions H/W/D 33/38.5/0.2cm
Mercedes-Benz is today the commercial brand used for cars produced by the German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz AG born in 2019 when Daimler AG, owner of the Mercedes-Benz brand, decided to create two distinct and autonomous companies that dealt with cars and commercial vehicles one and industrial vehicles and buses the other; in 2022 this step was completed with the definitive creation of the Mercedes Benz Group for cars and commercial vehicles and Daimler Truck & Buses for industrial vehicles and buses. Mercedes-Benz was originally founded in 1926 from the merger of Gottlieb Daimler's Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Karl Benz's Benz & Cie, father of the automobile with the Patent Motorwagen. The name Mercedes is instead linked to the daughter of the Austrian importer of Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft, Emil Jellinek who since 1898 used the name Mercedes as an omen for the sales of German cars and also because it was easier and more elegant to remember than Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft; the "Mercedes" used by Jellinek to participate in car races also reported the Mercedes writing on the nose and the numerous victories obtained by the Austrian importer allowed him to acquire considerable popularity and to order about 40 racing cars on condition that they were called, though, Mercedes. Despite the opposition of the Stuttgart top management for participation in the tenders, the order was respected and the Mercedes name is still used today. The Mercedes-Benz W180 identifies a series of cars produced by the three-pointed star car manufacturer produced from 1954 to 1960 and united by the load-bearing body and Ponton body, i.e. bodies with mudguards integrated into the car body and no longer separated as in the 1930s . The Mercedes-Benz 220a was the first car of the W180 series presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1954 where it immediately enjoyed great success which allowed it to go out of production with a fair number of units produced for the period reference; in 1955 at the Frankfurt motor show the coupé and cabriolet versions of the 220th version were presented, which however went into production much later than their presentation. The MB 219 and 220S are presented in 1956, the first is a cheaper version of the 220a, the second is not only the first Mercedes-Benz car to indicate the letter S in the name, it is also a sedan aimed at those who want luxury and the comfort offered by the 220a combined with the performance of the new 100hp 220S engine; still in 1956, the coupé and cabriolet versions of the Mercedes-Benz 220S were presented to complete the range that would go out of production only in 1959, both available in 2 and 4 seats.
