Porsche is a German car manufacturer founded in Stuttgart today owned by Volkswagen. Eng. Ferdinand Porsche (1875 - 1951) after having collaborated with Lohner in the creation of hybrid and electric cars also with four-wheel drive, opened his own design and engineering studio in 1931 Dr. Ing. hc F. Porsche GmbH to which he also joined the son, Ferdinand Anton Porsche known as Ferry. During the fascist period, in 1938, Ferdinand Porsche created a project for a popular car on behalf of Adolf Hitler and thus the Volkswagen Typ 1 or Beetle as it is better known in Italy was born. After a wait of about 10 years, in 1948, the first car produced by Porsche was presented, the 356 coupé, convertible and the most famous Speedster for the American market. The Porsche 356 owes much of its mechanics to the VW Typ 1, in fact, in addition to mounting the same engine with a modified fuel system, it also shared the location of the engine with the VW, which was mounted in a longitudinal and cantilevered rear position, i.e. over the rear axle. In 1963 Ferdinand Alexander Porsche known as Butzi, son of Ferry, designed the 911 again with a cantilevered engine like the 356, a feature that will always be maintained and only in 1998, with the 996 project, exactly like the model, the air cooling was replaced from the liquid cooling system. The term Carrera is, however, a tribute to the Carrera Panamericana car race of 1954 when the Porsche 550 Spyder driven by Hans Hermann finished 3rd; as a tribute to the result obtained, the engine developed by Fuhrmann was called Carrera. The Porsche 964 is the abbreviation of the construction project that indicates the Porsche 911 produced from 1989 to 1993, the Porsche 911-964 are also the first Porsche cars to be equipped with 4-wheel drive (Carrera 4) and two-wheel drive (Carrera 2) as well as the first Porsches to be equipped with the Tiptronic automatic gearbox.
