The Campbell-Railton Blue Bird was built to achieve records that were, at the time, considered unthinkable: in 1935 it broke the 300 mph speed record with British driver Malcolm Campbell behind the wheel. The car was built starting from the 1932 Campbell-Napier-Railton Blue Bird design, in which the Napier-Lion engine was replaced with the more powerful Rolls-Royce R engine, a V12 producing approximately 2300 hp. In 1933, the first attempt at Daytona Beach set a record of 272 mph, and the problems encountered with the car due to the increased power of the English V12 prompted engineers to completely redesign it. Thus, on September 3, 1935, Malcolm Campbell set the astonishing land speed record of 301.129 mph, around 485 km/h, with the Blue Bird. The Campbell-Railton Blue Bird is now preserved at the Daytona International Speedway museum.
